 Week8: Sakuraba continues his dominance...

Week 8.... shortened because of the Xmas matchups, but really - I don't care because my team is in suck-ville. Ugh.

On a lighter note Curry Pork got nuked (again). At no surprise to anyone the team he played was the top team for the week even though Rob's team was nearly the worst one in the previous week. For week 9 - Toes gets the lucky draw of the Pork. I wonder how many mega-games Marbury and LBJ will pound down. Toes had an average rank of 9.33 for Week 7 (just marginally better than my crappy squad), so this means he will have an average rank of about 5.00 next week :)

Gawd, it's game over for me this season...

I think my entire frontcourt is jacked... Artest, Chandler, Bogut, and now Yao. Game Over.

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/3536303.html

Bogut still has that stupid mask that's messing up his game, Artest is..... um..... yeah. And Chandler can't play big mintutes because he spent his new contract money on McDonald's Nuggets and Oreos.

ARGH.

 Stamens!!! Where are you tonight???

I don't understand Toronto. Joey Graham is starting, Plus Jalen + Alvin Williams are getting PT. I hope Ron Artest doesn't end up in Toronto... because I know he won't suit up to play up there :(

But worst of all; Charlie V. has no PT. Stamens!! where are you??!?!?!?

Week7: Sakuraba Boosts Over Rob Babcock Who is Camby-less

Someone needs to tell the rest of this league to stop doing trades with Mongol Rampage. His team has been improving every week and now is poised to just run the table (at least, that's how it looks on paper). Asian Sensation's team looked great last week but he is still without Amare. The result looks misleading; he lost pretty handily because he was matched up with Mongol Rampage. He'll have to keep on putting all his marbles in hoping for a super-stud-return around the All-Star break. But, I'm sure the news about Stephen Davis possibly having to retire in spite of returnng from microfracture surgery in the NFL is not good news.

As I posted earlier, Curry got hosed... but this time have a look at his team's Average Rank compared to his opponent. Talk about massive-ownage on the Pork. He had the second-best team in the league and all he gets out of it is 5 points because Creek's team won most of the close categories.

Stamens ... let's not talk too much about Stamens. As long as he has Kandi-Man on his team; you know that his team will struggle.

Sakuraba's squad didn't perform as well as previous weeks... but I think the reason for this that Sakuraba had Kandi-Man for a brief while early this week. Luckily, he dumped Kandi before that big pile of stink dragged down his team.

Shockwave Pulsar was able to pull off the "odd ball" team victory for week 7. He had a worse average rank than Iverson's squad, but since he lost steals and FG% so badly, he snuck out a win by claiming the closer categories.

My team still sucks; but now that I have Snow Blakes; you guys should be worried. I'm still confused how my team shot 67% from the charity stripe even though Artest was out. Ugh.

Oh, and I just want to point out that I pulled off a 9-0 week in a Yahoo Public league and this league is still active (the guy I beat posted a bit of trash talk before the week started and has been add/dropping). I feel special. I will give myself a cookie :)

 CurryPork = CursedPork

Man, I can't believe the run of bad luck that Curry has... it's insane!

He entered Sunday with an 8-1 lead over Creek's team. But when it was all over, Curry squeeked by with a 5-4 win and really was at risk of from losing 4-5 if not for Dirk actually swatting shots against the TWolves.

CurryPork gets to match up against Rob Babcock next week; this basically guarantees that Camby will be back and poised to contribute two 20/20 games to just crush CurryPork.

So, if you own Camby in a weekly lineup league; plug your super-stud-Camby in there because you know he'll go off for huge numbers even though he has a bad schedule!

 Curse?

Guys, my team truly sucks. I know everyone had said their own team sucks at some point during this season... either here or on the message board of our league. Well, I think I can truly say I really mean it when I say my team sucks.

Week 1, I felt like I had a pretty good draft and I hung onto Amare and get blown away 8-1 by Shockawave. If I would have picked someone up, I wouldn't have lost by this much.

Week 2, I think I dropped Amare after that 8-1 loss and picked up a scrub and hoped my team improved, but Sakuraba used the old trick of add/drop infinite amount of times to destroy my team. I remember I was leading 7-2 at the beginning of that week. I don't know what went wrong. Right now, I'm in the last last place of the league.

Week 3, my first win... 7-2 vs. vegibear. I'm starting to feel like my team is to putting something together. The other owner didn't play Stackhouse, so I had a one player advantage here...

Week 4 barely beat iversonxp 5-4 with his Grant Hill still sitting on the bench.

Week 5, GYAN's team had Kenyon Martin, Peja and Dalembert all back from injuries this week. What are the chances!!! Nonetheless, I got destroyed once again 6-3. If Dalembert did not come back this week, I would have win the BLK category for sure. He put up 14 blocks in 3 games. Blows... I also remember Kenyon Martin had his best game of the season in this week.

Week 6, I came in this week very confident that I could pick up a win against Asian Sensation. Well, somehow this week he pulled a trade acquiring Webber and S. Jax. Yes, S. Jax, the same player who sucked so bad for my team now plays against me and had his best game of the season during this week. What the hey!

Week 7, in progress... Creek has Melo in his team and he just scored season high 42 points tonight. It just seems like everybody who plays against me, their team goes on fire and mine lays dead.

Week 6: Sakaruba Blows out Stamens to Take the Lead

Wow, Sakaruba's team just committed 3 extra turnovers and needed 1 more steal to win a week 9-0 against Stamens. While a 7-1 win is always nice, I'm sure a 9-0 would be even better. I'll leave it to Stamens to discuss what it is making his team falter so badly. Maybe it's lack of production from Charlie V.... but I hope that is not the sole cause. On the bright side, Stamens gets Shaq back this week and Sakaruba just jynxed his team by adding Kandi-Man to his squad.

In what has to be the craziest turn of events, Curry Pork (Pork Attack) was absolutely screwed again. Really, it's comical now... I think Curry Pork is cursed for life. Asian Sensation had the absolute worst team of the league in Week 5. So what happens in the week that he gets matched up against Curry Pork? Well, the numbers don't lie - Asian Sensation's team was the most dominant this week, and his squad laid a huge smack-down on Curry's team even though Curry remains a top 4 squad (in terms of fantasy power) in the league. Crazy. So, the H2H scoring results are misleading; Curry is just getting hosed as nearly everyone he matches up with just happens to turn in a super-week to upset him. Hopefully Curry Pork is a USC fan and I will have something to cheer about....

Anyway, as for my matchup - it indeed was the most sorry pairing so far this season. Vegibear and Toes had a sub-par matchup in Week 1 - but Creek's squad and mine had a combined ranking of 19.56 - making it the ugliest matchup so far (Vegibear v. Toes combined for 18.89 in their ugly matchup). But, unfortunately for me, Creek's team fixed their deficiency at shooting and started to swat shots. What a shame.... Things kick off on a bad note for me in Week 7 - Artest is demanding to be traded and he's going to be riding the pine..... and I'm guessing he will find himself on the Hornets in a trade for JR Smith.

Another interesting turn of events this week; Mongol Rampage had the second best statistical team of the week - but lost to Gyan 4-5. In every single matchup so far this year, the team with a superior average rank always won the fantasy week versus their opponent. But Gyan lost a couple of categories extremely badly - and made up for it in some other close ones; to make him the winner this week even though his team wasn't the best statistically overall. So, I have to dub Gyan's team as the best "odd ball" team as it was able to claim 3PM and Steals while also being the best FG% squad and minimizing TO's.

Last, the ruling in the case of Stamens V. Curry Pork seems final... so let this be a lesson; read about the latest news before you accept a trade! And, don't offer trades involving a recently injured player or you may get accused of fraud.

Oh - and just to let you all know about my awesome gambling powers; so far this NFL season (starting in week 4), I am 27-6-1 (11-1-1 in the last 3 weeks) in picking spreads and over/under results of NFL games. I kick ass. I generally stop betting as the season winds down since the Reggie Bush Lottery effects betting in random ways.

Who will win the ugliest fantasy matchup of the year?

Yes, the season is early - but I really doubt any one will have a more pathetic matchup than the one involving myself and Creek! (Officer Shaq MBPD). Just like the Atlanta versus Toronto game, two crappy teams battling it out actually results in an exciting matchup! Unfortunately, this is embarrassing and just goes to show how both of us have teams that are destined to be sucky all year long. Yes, these two GM's were involved in "The Kobe Trade," but from the looks of things - neither of us would be having a great week regardless of the fact that we executed that trade over a week ago.

Just how bad is this matchup? First, you should review the following breakdown of our week thus far (click on the image to enlarge)

The crappyness of my team is hard to comprehend.
I have 4 players that are either injured, or playing hurt (Artest, Terry, Chandler, and Foster). I also have two PG's who have been demoted to the bench (Head and MoWill). On top of this, my model of consistency that I have relied on all year has only 2 games this week (Prince). Last, I have a one-dimentional 20 year old SG from NOK (I wont name names) that is not doing very well. And yet, I am winning 5-4 so far this week.

Just how bad is Creek's team?
His frontcourt is almost as pathetic as mine (actually, I think it is doing worse). His 6 frontcourt players have combined for 11 blocks on what must be 30% shooting (Sweetney, Gooden, PJ Brown, Perkins, Ely, and West). A couple of of his players are celebrating Christmas early by giving their oppoents easy access to the ball in the form of massive turnovers (Gordon, Wells). But, in a twist of irony, Kobe is a stud for FG% so far this week.

But, look at our combined FT%. When two separate groups of fantasy players can combine to shoot around 68% from the free throw line, you know you have 2 groups of fantasy losers. Our combined 3pm and block totals would probably still place us at the back end of the league compared to our opponents.

 Stamens v. Curry Pork., 267 F.2d 358 (2d Cir. 2005)

OPINION

ADWCTA, Fanball Commissioner.

FINDINGS OF FACT AND CONCLUSIONS OF LAW

I. INTRODUCTION

The principal question is whether the plaintiff, a Fanball League GM, is entited to provisions under the Fanball Lealgue Constitution to enjoin the defendant, also a Fanball League GM, from completing a trade involving NBA players in their respective fantasy teams.

The plaintiff alleges in their complaint that the defendant knowingly presented false information or withheld important information that served to create an unfair advantage. Furthermore, the plaintiff requests that commissioner injunction to halt the execution of the trade on the grounds that the trade is no longer equitable.

The causes of the action alleged is the result of a trade executed on December 4, 2005 at 10pm Eastern Time. The plaintiff agreed to trade Antawan Jamison and Deshaun Stevenson in return for the players Darius Miles and Stephen Jackson.

The Commissioner holds that the defendant did not violate the implicit trust that is necessary to facilitate equitable player trades in The Fanball League. Additionally, the defendant has acted in good faith and has not fraudulently represented his position in order to promote an unfair trade. The plaintiff is not now entitled to any relief under the Fanball Constitution. This judgement does not rule out future actions that may be obtained through an appeal.

II. FINDINGS OF FACTS

After reviewing available offers and counter offers, executed transtion logs, and timestamps of messages, the court makes the following findings of fact:

Bah, this is getting boring... I'll just paste what ADWCTA posted as his finding of facts......

While Pork did make the offer after Mile's game against Utah, he did not write anything even hinting that Miles was uninjured after that game. That game was the first news I could find on yahoo about Mile's injury.

(The) deal was accepted after the Utah game was over. Miles didn't play in that game. Recap stated Miles MRI required surgery and was placed on the inactive list before the game. All info directly from Yahoo.

 The Trade

I unloaded Miles and S. Jax for Antwain and DeShawn.

Considering the other owner had Shaq as his first pick, this GM would obviously stick with his first overall selection... so at some point he can say "I told you so" unless your name is Holeydonut.

Everyone know Shaq is the FT% killer, so this owner might as well give up on that category when Shaq comes back, which was soon. So I bet he felt obligated to pull the trigger to improve his team across the board while tanking the FT category.

Here comes Darius Miles shooting at 55% FT for the season thus far but filling out the rest of the stat sheet. He makes a good fit in Stamens team because surprisingly Miles is having a breakout year considering all his previous unfulfilled seasons. His numbers are not very different from Jamison's except he doesn't shoot 3s and turns the ball twice as much. Oh, and Jamison grabs all the rebounds from Gilbert's misses, so Jamison's rebounding is surprisingly higher than projected. So why Stamens took this trade? I don't know.

To offset the trade we exhanged S. Jax for Deshawn. First, S. Jax sux plain and simple. Even Jasikevicius? is outplaying him. He is in the biggest slump. I'm sure he will come out of it, but it'll be for another team now. I'm not a big fan of Deshawn but I'm a big fan of the Magic, so I don't mind having him. He's only good for Points category and I think he's borderline FA if it wasn't for us being in a deep league.

The offer was laid out before the announcement that Miles was going to be out indefinately so at the time it was a fair offer. We exchanged trade proposals the whole week and this is the one Stamens took. Maybe he accepted this before the news was announced, I don't know... but certainly I didn't twist his arm to accept this trade. It's done, I feel a bit guilty about it but I just improved on my cursed team with this trade.

Week5: Rob Babcock is leading the pack...

Rob Babcock is getting the most favorable matchups of anyone so far this league. This week he was paired up against Stamens' team, one that rode the hot hand of Shaq and Gasol early - but it's now barely able to put up a fight. Stamens' trade to get CWebb just seems destined for absolute failure. But for Rob, next week he has a pushover matchup against Toes. Toes was hot early, but now his entire team is struggling or injured. LBJ, 2 J.Smiths (but no JR), and Hughes are really struggling now. Cleveland has only 3 games again next week - sadness times for Toes.

Curry Pork got hosed by the Fantasy Scheduler yet again as he fields a very strong team - only to get absolutely crushed by gyan's team. Gyan's takes the weekly prize as being the most dominant, and he pulls out a 6-3 win at Curry's expense. But, Curry gets matched up against Asian Sensation next week; so expect a 7-2 victory for him there barring any serious injuries.... oh wait.... Darius Miles just went down with an injury. I think Curry is Cursed even without having picked up Kandi-Man.

ADWCTA should be poised to have a big week stat-wise against Gyan, but now Gyan's team is fully healthy and will probably remain very dominant. Of course, ADWCTA has other things to cuss out. Such as the dismay of entering a Sunday Night where 5 total assists from AK47 and BRAD would have combined to lift his squad into a 5-4 win last week. But instead, ADWCTA gets to discover that his top 2 guys dished out only 3 assists. Suck.

So my team is still really sucky... what else is new. Neither my first or second round picks are panning out. But, fortunately for me win Week 5, I was matched up with the team tied for worst... and that gives me a 7-2 win. Yay. But next week my top 3 fantasy players have only 8 games total... and Tayshaun Prince only has 2 games. I think I'm giving up around 15 games to Creek's team... I'm getting ready to be totally blown out. Maybe I'll lose 3-6.... but a more likely scenario is a 1-8 massacre.

An interesting note... many managers seem locked in around 20 blocks per week. It seems a manager who can get his weekly totals into the 30s has a strong chance to win that category against everyone but Petro (Big Ben + Przy = lots of blocks).

 Anatomy of a Foul...

To build on ADWCTA's post earlier....

This is a foul:

This is not a foul:

I just hope the Refs are given this lesson sometime soon so they won't mess things up in the future...

Oh - and don't forget to vote Ron Artest into this year's NBA All Star Game on NBA.Com!

OMG, look who is starting at SG for the Bucks...

Yes, it is MoWill :)

And double-Yes, he is ownaging :) :)

But, Bogut was in foul trouble and rather ineffective :(
